GMS at Capacity Russia & CIS 2019

At the beginning of April Capacity held their annual Russian and CIS regional conference, and GMS was proud to attend as a Gold Sponsor.

Geographically, the Russia, CIS, and Central Asia region is ideally situated between Europe and APAC for trade and, importantly, telecommunications. The conference thus represents an opportunity to learn more about the connections linking east and west, and to forge new ones.

Each year, attendees talk about trending themes in mobile. This year delegates discussed topics such as how China’s Belt and Road Initiative will impact mobile connectivity in the region, and how the major Russian and Central Asian operators are adapting to current market developments.

There were also panels on how content delivery is evolving in an increasingly interconnected world, and on how networks are responding to today’s security threats.

Of particular interest was, of course, the rollout of 5G and cloud computing – next-gen technologies that make them hot topics globally. Other technologies discussed included the Internet of Things, and local and regional leaders were keen to show their progress in building the next generation of smart cities using these emerging technologies.

GMS was also proud to be involved in the panel on “The Future of A2P Messaging in Russia & CIS,” which was moderated by GMS RCS Consultant Giovanni Benini.

Giovanni was particularly impressed with the technical organization of this year’s conference: “for me it was a unique experience – the first time I moderated a bilingual panel: I asked in English and got a reply in Russian, which got translated in real time into my ear piece. Quite cool!”

Naturally, when talking about A2P, the topic of Rich Communication Services came up, and GMS was pleased to be able to share our experience of developments in this mobile messaging technology – both in the CIS and across the wider globe.
